Warm-Up like the Trek-Segafredo Pros

Prepare for your next event like the riders in the pro-peloton

Here at Saris, we've been the proud sponsor and official bike trainer of the Trek-Segafredo racing team since it's rebirth in 2013. Their racers are some of the best from all over the globe.

With the 2021 pro-race season well underway, we checked in with one of our Trek-Segafredo contacts to learn more about how the chaps in stripes warm-up on the Saris H3 Direct Drive Smart Trainers before a big race.

Generally members of the team complete a basic, 20-minute warm-up focused on hitting specific numbers, similar to the example below.

20-Minute Warm-Up

  • 6 minute progression until the athlete reaches about 80% of their maximum heart rate. The goal here is to raise the heart rate and increase the blood flow and is measured with either heart rate or power output.

  • 6 minute power block intervals: 3 x (1:30 minutes on/30 second rest) at their threshold power, depending on the length of the time trial. The goal? To open oxygen pathways and kinetics. These intervals are measured with power numbers only.

  • 2 minute easy spin.

  • 4 minute power block intervals: 4 x (30 seconds on/30 seconds rest) at maximum aerobic power. These quick bursts are measured in watts and help the cyclist reach complete muscle activation.

  • 2 minute easy spin.
